I would like to get rid of my laptop. It's too heavy for me to carry, and I dislike the touchpad, but plugging in a keyboard and mouse puts the screen further away and is a nuisance when I also want to use my printer.
I would like to revert to a desktop, with perhaps a tablet? that could be synchronised to it for use on the move (gmail and looking at documents mainly).
I mainly use MS Office applications - I run several small community groups and do a lot of typing in word, excel, powerpoint etc, . I use Windows 10, gmail and google drive, social media, the occasional youtube but no gaming.
I'm not looking for anything Ipad, iPhone related.
My phone is a Galaxy 3 Samsung, and when I change it will probably be to another Samsung. I have an oldish HP printer that does what I need it to.
For the desktop, I would like to spend hundreds of pounds rather than thousands.
As you can probably tell, I am not very tech savvy and most people I know just use tablets for photos and the odd e-mail, so I would very much appreciate any recommendations.

Since a desktop would need a monitor anyway, any reason not to also plug a monitor into the laptop and use it as if it was a desktop ?0

There are few things you can consider.
1. Get a monitor + laptop stand + wireless keyboard and mouse & with additional tablet.
What is the spec of your existing laptop?
2. Get desktop as planned with new tablet.
3. Get tablet like Microsoft surface with additional monitor & wireless keyboard and mouse
Tablet wise, I recently purchased Huawei Mediapad M5 10 during back friday and I am happy about it. However, i don't know if you think it is too expensive.
Having said that, most review said the current ipad is good in that price range.
Edit: for desktop, check this out if you don't mind refurb product. (add £30 if you want 1 year warranty)

Thank you all for your help. I'm not sure yet what I'll do, but I appreciate the responses.0

If it were me I would do the majority of typing on the pc, a tablet is ok for doing emails but not typing out word docs, excel wtc. Using a monitor, keyboard and mouse in conjunction with the laptop is good.0
