Esa-UC when moving home

Options
Hello, I was possibly going to move from one local authority to another within the same county but I today found out that in doing so I would lose my ESA and force me to claim UC. I was also told I would lose money once on UC. I get £382 a fortnight on ESA, so god knows how much they pay on UC. Looks like I’ll be staying put. Any advice or info would help me. Thanks

Looking at the amount of ESA you receive it seems like you're claiming the SDP in with that. As you're claiming this then there's new legislation and as from 16th January 2019 those claiming SDP will not be able to make a claim for UC. So, from then you can move house and live anywhere in the country and you'll remain on the same benefits you're on now.:j see link.

They wouldn't because the legislation only came out today.

It was only confirmed today. Has been pending for some time but there was doubt about whether it would be implemented because government and MPs are a bit distracted!
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Seems silly me starting a new thread. Same question... will I be transferred from IR ESA to U/C if I move region. I don't get SDP... just EDP. (also claiming PIP, have non EU partner - no public funds condition, own home). Presumably it doesn't trigger a re-assessment of disability?

No, this isn't classed as a change of circumstances to prompt a move to UC, because you don't claim housing benefit. You will just need to contact DWP for change of address.

You can re-assessed at anytime for ESA, so if this does happen then it will be just a coincidence.
