Shop Direct PPI / Lowell

Just looking for some advice. Made a successful PPI claim against Shop Direct.

I had a debt of £1.3k. Had a statement from them, approx £900 in debt and £400 in charges. They then sold this balance to Lowell in 2013.

Made a claim and it was upheld. They have sent me a letter saying the balance of £553 has been off set against the debt I owe Lowell as they have bought back some of the debt.

I have a debt management plan with Lowell. Just wondered if they can do this? Is it worth complaining back to shop direct and the FOS. And is there anything I can do about the amount of fees they charged me before they sold the debt.

Thanks in advance

Yes, they can do this, as you still owe them the debt. It has reduced the amount you owe.

What is the issue re the fees they charged you before selling the debt?

I was under the impression that if they sold the debt to Lowell then it was nothing to do with shop direct anymore as Lowell own the debt.

When I went into financial difficultly they added over £400 in interest, admin, late payment fees. And then sold the debt on to Lowell. It was 2012 this happened not 2013

If it had remained sold, yes, but you said that they had clawed back the debt.

Were the fees not in line with those in the agreement? If not, you can complain.

The debt is still with Lowell. In the letter they sent it states they have the right to buy back some of the debt from Lowell, so they have bought back £553 of the debt and offset the ppi refund against what they have bought back.

With regard to the fees, it was so long ago now. I only saw on the statement they sent a few weeks back there was lump sums of interest added and about a years worth of late payment fees and admin charges. This was all added when I defaulted

It seems that everything is in order.
