HP Printers

Options
I have had several hp printers that work for a few months (sometimes just out of warranty) then pack up.

Does anyone know why?

What do you mean? What's broken? Does the cartridge dry out or some mechanical problem?

Printers rarely just "pack up", there's usually a reason why they stop working. From when I worked in consumer IT support the number one reason why printers stopped working was because they ran out of ink (or paper). The second most common reason was because something fell down the back of a rear loader which caused the paper to load at an angle.

Actual mechanical failure or other issue was quite low on this list, and when it did happen it was because the printer was donkeys years old.

When I click on the app on the desktop it has a message to install a new printer as the existing one is installed and has worked now it is not recognized
In the past I have removed and reinstalled.
This seems to of happened since a recent dreaded microsoft update.

Ok so, after all, the problem seems to be with your computer rather than the printer.

How is the printer connected? USB? Wireless?

I have had my HP Photosmart C5380 for almost 9 years, but have just replaced it with a Canon TS 6150. The HP was still working perfectly, but was USB connected, is slow and I needed a wireless printer with 5-cartridges. I print a lot of photos and colour documents and I need those to be as near perfect as possible: the Canon answers that and I am well pleased with it so far. I needed wireless because I have grown my network to include devices, TV and a laptop, all in different rooms.

Point is that the HP is still working perfectly after 9 years, but HP did not have the equivalent 5-cart printer I needed, because IMO HP have mostly given up making quality printers.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
