Eon wants to more than double monthly DD

My energy company have written to me saying that they want to increase my monthly direct debit from £130, up t0 £280. I think is absolutely ludicrous to increase it by that much. Has anybody else experienced massive price increases with this company?

Time to look back on your bills and meter readings and do some checks and sums of your own.
What does your last bill say - were you then in credit/debit ? What were the meter readings - estimated or actual ?
Have you been giving your suppliers readings at least monthly and keeping your own records.
When does your fix run our or are you on a Standard tariff ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

I'm guessing it's relative to your consumption, if you don't want to pay for it don't use it. But relative to both consumption and payments is the winter increase in consumption: If you submit meter readings while your consumption is increasing that can give a false calculation of your annual consumption if there is no account history to aid in the calculation. Personally, I like EDF's annual maybe 6-monthly readings if they feel like it, because that's more accurate than monthly readings.0 -
Have you checked your bills - how many are based on estimates and how many on actual readings.
If the supplier hasn't been getting regular readings and you've been getting estimated bills then this could be the catch-up.
Do as Robin above suggests and check your own consumption and do your own sums.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Don't waste your time, the OP obviously totally ignored the common sense advice given only six months ago!

Is it only me who is disappointed when posters like Penn ignore advice ? Do they just think the problem will go away? Because it won't.
I am sure that some of those helping have had problems in the past - I have - and have welcomed the advice given.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

I'm guessing that most of us are speaking from experience and hoping that others might get a few hints or tips on how to avoid problems or to get out of them.
I also get a bit disappointed when no-one responds or even worse comes back several months later with the same problem only worse.
In which case they obviously don't care enough to do anything about it and probably deserve the situation that they are in.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Morning all,
Thank you for all of the advice on the thread, I don't really have any more to add.
Malc has given some excellent advise here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5850161/e-on-wants-to-double-my-monthly-direct-debit&page=2 on the previous thread, as did the posters as well.
Thank you

OP, it's not a price increase, it's a DD increase. Your unit rates are the same, but your DD is too low to cover your ongoing usage and arrears. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
