Is January a good time to buy a new Laptop?

Options
Hi
I've just seen a laptop in my local family-owned computer shop and was wondering if anyone can say if this is a good deal or if there are any online retailers can offer better?
I'm aware that buying from my local shop not only helps them continue trading but also, if I have any issues with the laptop I can quite easily pop in to sort it out.
However, I will consider online deals just to compare.
Uses are for some gaming, Student work and general surfing.

This is the offer:

Lenovo V130 Laptop.
Intel Core i3-7020U 2.3GHz Processor.
4GB RAM.
480GB SSD drive.
15.6" HD LED Screen
Intergrated Intel HD5500 Graphics.
Webcam
Wi-Fi
HDMI
Bluetooth
Card Reader
DVDRW
Windows 10
Full Internet Security (OEM)
Free 5 year Labour Warranty, Delivery & Setup.

£ 489.00

Thanks in advance for any help.

I won't comment on the price, obviously if you look online you get much cheaper options, but buying from local, family-owned shops has its own benefits.
That being said, if you are considering using the computer for games, that I'm afraid won't be a good choice.
A few things that you would need to improve: more memory (8GB at least), separate graphics card (so no Intel-based graphics cards), preferably an i5 CPU (i7 even better, but more expensive).
For student work (i.e. Excel/Word) and general browsing is ok, but gaming is another story.

OP it depends on your definition of gaming.

If you mean latest titles that you would buy such as call of duty et al then you are not even close with that spec ..

If you mean browser games (which i suspect you do) like candy crush and that sort of stuff then that spec will be fine.
I applaud you for buying local too, but that price is high :(

this is the big brother below. Besides the price, look at the rating (currently 77, this shows the majority think it is not a real bargin - ok-ish, but the gold of the site often lies in the comments people make there

    Thats a gaming laptop?

Lenovo i5's with double the RAM and better grapghics available for less.

Probably other brands with better specs for even less.

Ratings can be misleading, it can be good for someone that only uses it for browsing and it can be rubbish for others that play games.
As mentioned before, you need to clarify the 'gaming' part. If it's more than simple online games, discard any laptops that don't have a separate graphics card.

Ignoring your 'gaming' requirement, i would say this is better value for money

    Lenovo V330-14ARR 81B1 14″ Notebook - Ryzen 5 2 GHz - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD - Iron grey £400

Your local store probably £100 more expensive? But with 5 years labour included, you need to judge if it worth paying.

Cisco001, above link does not work :(

Edit: Thanks forgotmyname, it does work. Tried it a few times, now realise going through a vpn makes it geoblocked :(

Link works fine for me, opens google shopping page with the item they mention and a list of sellers with prices.

Ebuyer, Laptops Direct, Technoworld and Box all under £400.

For gaming, I recommend a laptop with dedicated graphics card.
