Old Style Daily Monday 14th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
It doesn't feel as cold here this morning, hopefully the wind has died down. I have been tossing and turning all night again so gave up at 4am and came downstairs. The dogs were pleased to see me anyway and they have had an early breakfast. Steve will be up in an hour for work and once he's left I will lock the door and go back to bed for a bit.
I was going to make chicken fajitas for dinner but we have quite a lot of roast beef left so will swap to beef ones and pop the chicken in the freezer for another day. I can't believe how much money I have saved this week just eating healthier and not have a takeaway or two. The fridge is still full, it's just lots of fruit and veg.
My friend surfaced finally and rang me last night. Apparently the police tracked her down and she was very angry about it but that is what happens when you disappear for a few days without saying to anyone where you are. At least her poor family are a bit calmer now. She is classed as a vulnerable person because of her bipolar so that is why the police were involved. The sad thing is that she always takes her meds, it's just her illness overpowers her at times.
Lilly has mock exams today so she was up till the early hours panicking/revising. I hope she does ok, she is not happy about being in college anyway as she wants to get a job but she isn't 18 until May. It seems ridiculous to me that kids are forced to stay in education until they are 18 now, it's such a long time to stay in school. Hopefully she will get some qualifications out of it anyway.
Thinking about all of you especially if you are not well or looking after someone who isn't well. It is a hard time of year I think but hopefully Spring isn't too far away. Last year seemed to pass incredibly quickly and we are already halfway through January.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready also, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still pitch black here, wind seems to have died down here too thank goodness, dry underfoot.
Lunch yesterday was beef, roasties, mash, kale, carrots, broc, cauli cheese, swede (me only), peas, yorkshires and gravy - was lovely and I managed not to ruin the meat, it was a nice joint. We have some LO's so will be looking to use those up somehow. Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg/salad.
Yesterday morning we went to visit the parents but didn't stay too long at either so we could get back and get the lunch organised, it was rather late but a nice meal.
Back to work today - we'll see what it brings, hopefully quite busy so the day passes in a flash. I'm only working today and tomorrow this week, I have a day off on Wednesday but am back on in Saturday.
Although lunch was lovely it was a bigger plate full than I've become used to so feel rather full still, I have HM potato, butternut squash and carrot soup for lunch today, I'll take a banana for dessert and pick up a fresh wholemeal roll to go with it on the way in to work when I pick up the milk also. Hopefully by the end of the day I'll start to feel more comfortable. I was trying to be good and have extra veg, maybe I'll need to look at that again!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Dry this morning but quite chilly. The wind seems to have died down, it was wild last night.
I was up early yesterday to go to DS1s. Had a lovely day (the weather was beautiful) and looked after DGS while DS took DGD to her dancing show rehearsal. We had a great time pottering about in the garden with stones and sticks!
DD seems to be a bit better, I'll call in to see her on my way home. The anti sickness tablets seem to be working, she still feels sick but hasn't been and has been eating a little and drinking more which is more important. Can't remember who suggested ice lollies, thank you, they have certainly helped.
Fat club weigh in tonight, hoping to have lost at least 2 stone!!
Lovely to hear of your DGDs progress dp1.
Happy Monday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. Bleurgh night here too. Wind dropped here as well thank goodness, there were bins crashing around all day yesterday. Ours are safe enough up the side of the garage but the usual folk never learn and persist in leaving them exposed to the elements.
I need to nip to town today to buy a new hot air brush. Without it my hair looks like a skull cap with no body whatsoever. I washed it yesterday, plugged in my brush and it went with a bang frightening me to death.
My decluttering ground to halt last week but hopefully I am back on the case and will resume this afternoon.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. And in particular those facing ops and treatment. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Seems milder here today but we are due for a cold spell later in the week I believe with some snow for some parts !
Off to work today and I made up a chicken and chorizo traybake yesterday to shove in the oven tonight so nice and easy.
Didn't sleep well last night I heard some banging outside and got up three times to check, I could not see anything but it put me on edge, it was a knocking like someone knocking at a door but which stopped when I looked out, very strange !!
Anyhoo onto today and I need to think of something to keep six clients busy for the day, we might try making teacakes today !!
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Another miserable day outside with rain and wind. Where I live is mostly a moss bog which means the water just sits around. Huge areas are protected by law and now the swathes of pine trees are being cut down to extend and protect the moss. Added to that is the sea and river meeting at low lying ground, this means it's mostly soggy here. Fields are full of water with more on the way.
This morning I'm teaching and when I get back there's more writing up to do. I'll be glad when this semester is finished.
My cauliflower cheese was lovely yesterday, and there's enough for today too. The wee hint of jalapeño adds a little heat to it.
I'm waiting for a chink of light to break the darkness, then I'll get up!
I'm sending out good vibes to everyone. Happy Monday.0 -
Morning all,
Dumpling, I'm glad your friend has been found. I think you did the right thing. Her family must have been so worried.
The HT has mock exams this week too. He doesn't seem unduly bothered. We had a power cut yesterday and when I suggested using the gadget free time to revise he said he'd already done his revision. Oh well, at least I could show him how to light the gas fire and gas cooker without the usual electronic ignition. Apparently it was an overhead cable fault and it was fixed fairly quickly - we are on the same part of the grid as the big local hospital so don't have to wait long for attention to any problems.
I'm still coughing but apart from being too breathless to go running I'm OK. Thank goodness for modern medicine. I need to go to the post office and do a few other bits. I might do a freezer inventory as I've lost track again and seem to spend so much time gazing into one drawer waiting for something to jump out for dinner. My meal making head is firmly switched off - I just see ingredients and not meals which isn't helping with weight loss at all.
Granny dp glad to hear that your new grandaughter is doing well
Camelot good to hear that your daughter is feeling better. Whatever she had sounds really nasty!
Take care all of you

Morning

Calmer here too this morning too although i do enjoy being wrapped in my duvet when it's howling outside.
Nice chilled pj day yesterday with successful tv and fridge decluttering. I did make a very lovely tea of shredded sprouts with bacon and lemon with some pigs in blankets and a slice of beef
I am aware that cooking for one allows me to get away with my strange meals but I dont care I like my meals even if no one else would :rotfl:
Today is back to work ...i have 4 courses to prep for next week which will take a couple of days as they are all new ones. In between I have lots of clothes to put away and possibly a small declutter to keep the momentum going. 2 black bags went out this morning so I will work towards my next bag.
Food will be left over sprout dish and possibly some soup for lunch.
Hope you all have a good day and eat lots more normal food than me :A0 -
Good morning everyone and happy Monday.
I had a lovely weekend visiting family and friends back in Glasgow.
I left early on Saturday to arrive at my dads party at 1 and got there shortly after. I say party, it was more a gathering of the immediate family members. He's not really able to acknowledge it's his birthday, or even what a birthday is, never mind the fact that he's 60! Anyway, it was nice to see him and the family. I do really enjoy spending time with that side of the family.
From there I drove home and had a nice dinner with my DM and SD then visited my friend around the corner after. I had a relatively lazy Sunday morning before having lunch with my gran and then headed home via a Tesco in Scotland given that they'd all be shut by the time I got down. Got in for 6ish and made my soup for the week ahead (butternut squash) and then my dinner (sticky blood orange chicken stir fry).
I had a terrible nights sleep and so I'll visit the gym after work today. Sage, leek and bacon risotto for dinner, which I've never made before. Got some frogs to eat to including; sending back some clothes my dad didn't like, organising letters I've received, visiting the post office for a parcel I missed and hoovering the flat too.
Ruby - In my short time in Manchester so far, I've realised that a teacake has 2 meanings within the UK. So do you mean teacake as in a Tunnocks style teacake, with the chocolate, biscuit and marshmallow type filling? Or do you mean the type of savoury teacake you would have with bacon and the likes? The later is completely new to me!0 -
Morning everyone,
I didn’t manage to get on yesterday as had a big family lunch and I was busy, all food eaten and enjoyed so worth the effort.
Sorry that you have been feeling so down TA entirety understandable as it’s still such early days, take care x
The weather is very calm and still here too, I can see a bit of blue sky which is nice after yesterday’s blanket grey, I have a few chores in town to do and Lu needs exercising so it will be good not to get soaked.
Hugs to all poorlies, have a good day folks x0
