Partial bank transfers - joint to sole ?

Options
Hi

My partner and I have a joint account but we’d like to move one of us out and into a sole account somewhere else ?

All of the offers we’ve seen for new accounts, with the nice set up bonus all want you to use their switching service and to close the older account down in the end.

Has anyone moved half of a joint account over to a new account and still retained the original account ?

  • Hi parkerc

Best way I can think of is in 2 parts.

    1. Open a sole account at your current bank and move any applicable direct debits and update any payments in e.g salary/uc/pension

    2. Switch that account to the new bank with the bonus

In my experience step 1 can be done instantly with some banks. I've used Santander to open up a second account and the sort code / account number were emailed to me the same day.

    Good luck!
