How long before probate is granted

I handed the PA1A forms to the probate office a month ago. I haven't heard anything from them since. I know we've had Christmas but I didn't think it would take this long, is this unusual?

How long is a place of string? Nobody can tell you. It depends on the probate office and amount of work. You just need to be patient.

often it is the IHT part that takes time

Does it need HMRC sign off?

Did you fill in IHT205 or IHT400? Have you paid the IHT which is due straight away?
  • My recent experience is:
PA1 and IHT 400 etc, plus request to bank to pay IHT direct, posted 1 November
Grant of probate received 7 December.
    The Probate Registry was London.

Not unusual at all, especially with Christmas and New Year intervening.

You could phone the probate office concerned and ask what their current lead time is?
