Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge, not savings :rotfl:

Feels like a productive day. I posted my holding letters to creditors, started my technical envelope saving system and made first deposits, put my weekly petrol allowance in the car (so it's out of my purse) and did all my shopping for the sum of £28.19. The challenge for the next few days is to stay out of the shops. Saturday's are always spending days thanks to parking for my daughters club, I can get 3 NSDs in before that. I also opened a savings account which is attached to my current :)
  • Its really easy to ad savings account to a N/Wide account if you have internet banking. You just do it online and it takes minutes. I have 5 set up on ours and it works brilliantly.

Between 5 and 15 Nationwide accounts... I will open more!!! :D

Thanks for subscribing ImpulseSpender, I appreciate the support :)

I’ve managed to have two NSDs so far. This is quite an achievement because I usually pop in Asda on my way home for one thing and end up spending £20!

I’ve got £230 in my EF already, I want it to have £2000 in it because my boiler’s been playing up and the British Gas engineer said it needs replacing the last time I called them out. I find that hard to believe though as it’s only 4.5 years old! It’s been ok since he was here but not perfect so I need to be prepared in case. I need to find out if it’s got a 5 year warranty!

Yesterday was a NSD :) so that’s 3 this week and I’m not planning on going anywhere tomorrow. I spent £7.70 today for parking and getting some bits in Asda so have about £15 left over from my food budget this week. Feels like a win!

I work the night shift in a supermarket a couple of nights week and at least one of those nights I’m charged with searching out food that needs reducing because its on its last day. I find so much food that should have been reduced the night before but the person who did it (pretty useless) missed it so it’s out of date, but only by a few hours. They won’t let us take it home  perfectly good food gets thrown in the bin, it drives me nuts! I could easily feed myself for a week on the food I throw away in one night :(. We can have it on our break but who’s hungry at 3am lol, I did have a sandwich last night though for the first time ever. That was because I hadn’t eaten much in the day so I might do the same next week.

They did allow us to take some bakery food one morning though, because there was so much of it, so I’ve been living off pastries for two days haha. It’s a shame they can’t see that logic every day!

Good that you opened a savings account - presumably this is for emergency savings? Saving up for insurances, birthdays and Christmas and car maintenance is also sensible. A boiler that goes after 4.5 years? I would contact a local plumber as I would not trust the British Gas engineer. Who installed it?

Your insurances are high so I would use comparison sites to see if you can get those down. In the future paying annually is much cheaper but you have to save of course. With a £900 surplus though you seem to have a fair amount of leeway but it is important you have a sustainable budget rather than go hell for leather to pay off your Mum and credit cards and then having to put more on credit. If you go on a DMP you cannot borrow anything further anyway. Have you agreed a repayment plan with your mum?

It really drives me mad the amount of food supermarkets throw away, especially when there are so many people on the streets and in poverty. I understand they are worried about the H&S aspect if someone accuses them of giving them food poisoning, but can't really see that happening with pastries and bread products. Even some of the chilled products would still be fine I would have thought. It really is silly
