An easy trip would as someone has already suggested, take the skytrain to Saphan Taksin where you can get a free boat to Asiatique, then return to the Pier (Sathorn) and get the free Hilton Boat where the brand spanking new ICONSIAM has just opened next to the Hilton Millennium. There are no checks to determine if you are a guest at the hotel - just hop on.

If you time it right, you can get the complimentary Hilton ferry from Asiatique directly back to the hotel.

Check out the ground floor in iconsiam where they have recreated a sort of floating market with cheap and tasty food available with modern shops on the higher floors.

Then to satisfy any rooftop bar desire, pop up to the skybar in the Hilton Millennium - it is called the 360 bar (or something like that), right next door to ICONSIAM where you will get amazing views of the river and the city.

These are all in a very short distance of each other and can be easily achieved in the relatively short time you have there.

Getting the Air Rail Link and then BTS [Skytrain] to Saphan Taksin, and orienting around the stations and Pier will take an absolute minimum of 90 minutes each way, more if you lose your bearings. It will be be very busy around the Piers, it always is.

If you use the trains during the evening rush, which is quite enduring, then be v.careful of valuables.

The ARL level at the Airport in on the Basement Level. The best money changers are down there too [Super Rich].

So in the end, we never left the Novotel. The flight into Bangkok was slightly late, and the airport itself was chaotic with a lot of people on the move for Chinese new year. At least that gave us warning to get up a bit earlier the next day, as it took just over two hours to get through passport control and security.

Nightmare. While Bangkok is a very convenient 'gateway' in and out of SE Asia, that airport has to cope with 'big-birds' continuously, and little short of chaotic non-stop. With Arrivals, even if you clear Immigration fairly quickly it's often the case that it can take ages for Luggage to hit the carousel.

Whatever you do, and I'm sure you won't, do not over indulge in the falling down liquid and inadvertently make any negative remarks about their Royalty.

  • If you can squeeze it in, I did a food tour in Bangkok (I used these guys https://achefstour.com/) - what's cool is that you have a guide take you round and you get to try loads of different types of street food..... there were so many cool dishes that i didn't even know existed.
  • Too late, they've been ........
