most people selling have a bog standard property anyway surely.
I don't think there was anything in my post to suggest otherwise.

However, I don't have a straightforward property. Neither do the friends I've mentioned, who should have gone to a local firm with a long track record of selling the type of property on offer. Sometimes it pays to obtain advice and look at alternatives.

Using PB could also give a bad impression, if many people's opinion on this forum is to be believed. I'm not saying these posters are right, but there's definitely hostility there, which I wouldn't ignore.

I don’t know much about purple bricks but all EAs are not the same.

I had a choice of 2 who were very familiar with the block our property was in.

The high st EA used online portals, newspapers and also had a high st presence close to bus/train/town and the latter is important if your selling to the older generation (not everyone is internet savvy).

The other company specialised in retirement properties so had buyers specifically looking for that type.

No way can you say they are all the same.
A % of the house buying population can’t even use a computer.

You need only to see the statistics for the online property portals to understand why they’re such an essential part of marketing your home to potential buyers. A recent study found that an overwhelming 95 per cent of UK home buyers use the internet to conduct their property searches, making the traditional high street agent window ad - and even the trusty For Sale sign - increasingly obsolete.

But I am someone who buys most things online, from property to holidays, even groceries (but that is more to aid me and my mobility issues) I like to cut out the middleman and the charges incurred.

A bog standard property can be sold more cheaply by using an online service, why pay more, it's a gamble whichever way you sell or buy.
  • As above, purplebricks are the perfect example of you get what you pay for. Why anyone would think "saving" a grand or two when selling what is almost certainly the biggest investment they will have had to date using basically a call centre rather than use specialists locally.

Your property has been overvalued by pb to get the instruction and the surveyors are advising the bank it is worth 15k less, surveyors are right and usually only a couple of panel surveying firms do the bulk of valuations in area so even a third sale will probably get same result.

A decent estate agent will progress the sale through much better so will be a lot safer and quicker. You will be very unlikely to find a buyer willing to wait an indefinite time, and on exchange a date will be set for you to vacate the property, therefore must either move to rented or family or run a purchase alongside sale. .

Well in our very recent transaction with pb they actually valued it less than the High Street Estate Agents.
Have to agree with your remark on saving over a £1000 though, why pay it when you have no need to.
