Hi folks,
I hope this is the right place, I couldn't tell if this board was parking-only. Mods, let me know if not and I'll move or delete as requested.
I'm after advice about whether Police Scotland have left things too long to pursue me for an alleged 80mph on a 70mph (non-motorway) trunk road.
The date of the offence is 10th November 2018. The car is registered to my employer and a "Requirement to identify driver" letter was waiting for us when we came back to work on 7th Jan. I guess at the VERY earliest it might have been posted 17th December (we closed on 22nd Dec and it hadn't arrived by then). Unfortunately, no-one noted the date on it when it was completed and sent back with my name as the driver.
My letter arrived today dated 10th Jan.
Do I have any grounds for suggesting the alleged offence was too long ago? I genuinely can't remember the circumstances, although they say there's photo/dvd evidence.
Thanks all

Are you sure the vehicle isn't registered to a leasing company? Have you physically clapped eyes on the V5c?0

Ahh good point, no I've not seen it. You're probably right, that'd explain it. Thanks for the suggestion.
It's annoying as I'm not a deliberate speeder, although driving 38-40k miles a year I'd be daft to say it doesn't occasionally happen.
Can I ask to see the evidence without prejudicing any future fixed penalty offer? I've not returned today's notice yet.0 -
Try on http://www.pepipoo.com/ for confirmation, but I think sending the drivers details back unsigned still works in Scotland.0

Will do, cheers.0

Do not use a hotmail address to register on PePiPoo - it won't work. Suggest a Gmail throwaway for the duration of dealing with your case. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
