It's going to scare potential tenants off. It screams "High crime area."

A steel door sounds awful. I think it'll scare prospective tenants before they even step into the house.

Unless maybe it's an area that's well known for high crime (e.g. a rough inner city area), where tenants will be specifically looking for high security doors and windows.

It already has one, and it's the original. Not secure at all, and pretty worn out. It's a pretty major security liability in this day and age - the door can be prettied up but it has the original lock, with just a 5-pin barrel, and the door's so windowed you wouldn't need to pick the lock to get in.

In what way is it worn out, is it rotten? It's cheap enough to get a carpenter to repair that sort of damage.

It's cheap enough to add a door lock in addition to the night latch lock. The existing lock can be replaced for a BS3621 Night Latch that can't be unlocked without a key from the inside even if the window is damaged.

That said, burglars don't usually pick locks, nor do they tend to gain access via front doors if they're visible from the street.
