First Time Buyer Process...

Hi everyone, I am a FYB and SO CONFUSED and stressed!! My partner and I have been accepted by our broker who completed an affordability check over the phone (is this a decision in principle?) We then passed our credit check with the broker on Tuesday.. we are now awaiting an advisor to come visit us on the 21st to do a final affordability check before submitting the application to Santander for approval, are we likely to be accepted? Surely seeing as though we have passed the credit check as well as affordability is there much else that could go wrong? The idea of waiting these next few weeks is so stressful!

We are going to reserve the property tomorrow so I will be so heartbroken if we get rejected after all this...

  • Your broker is the best person to advise on this. If they're any good at all, they won't put your application in unless they're confident of you being accepted. So on that basis, I'd say you should be fine!

No, you do not have a decision in principle from a mortgage lender (Santander or another bank).

You have a broker's best opinion that you should get a DIP once an appliation is submitted.

Now - nip down to your library and borrow a book (free) on house buying, because there are 101 other things you need to learn, and we don't want you asking each of those 101 questions here as they arise - far better you get to understand them all in advance!
