I have the same setup, hosting on OwnCloud, which I run on a server I physically own and have full control over. It works well and I've yet to have any issue with my use. I chose Keepass as it worked on the systems I use (Linux, Android and Windows) and doesn't rely on a 3rd party cloud service.

Granted, this isn't a setup to a non-technical person, as Keepass isn't a cloud backed system, so requires additional configuration to sync across devices.
Real men use pass synced with a self-hosted git repo :)

Clients are available for almost every OS imaginable.

If i want to use apps on an Xbox One, how would you go about logging into the apps if you use a password manager? The apps for example would be BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, Prime Video etc...

I use Dashlane myself and find it very good - but it costs about £35 per year

If you are referring to things like smart TV apps you have hit on a limitation there. You can either get at it through the web browser, if that device has one, and copy from there or enter it manually. Normally with those things though you only need to enter your password once.

If you are referring to mobile apps then the password app will fill it in for you. I use Chromecast (where is uses your phone's credentials) as opposed to a smart TV so have no experience there.

I use one called safeincloud, it's on my Android phone and windows laptop and works great.

I'm referring to Xbox One apps that you download from the Microsoft store and install onto the Xbox hard drive. You are only required to sign into these apps once to get them working continuously but if you are using a password manager then your passwords can be 40, 50 characters long so manually typing them in would be a nightmare.

I think your suggestion of using a browser could be a good idea. I have one installed on the Xbox so will try logging into my password manager from there to see if there is a copy and paste option to fill the fields in.

I think 40–50 characters would be over-egging the custard! If you're using one generated by a password manager 16–20 would be sufficient.

My last XBox was the first ever version but unless they now come with keyboards I'd imagine inputting text is the same and therefore requires a lot of patience using a controller!

It's a shame your phone and console or smart TV can't share a password through an app. Maybe they can — but I've not heard of it.

That's exactly what I do, works really well. I use a Raspberry Pi for my git repo.
