Rewiring HP laptop mains adapter?

The cable on mains lead leading from the external transformer to the PC is damaged near the transformer - I think it may have been my cat
I'm hoping that it is possible to open up the transformer box, cut the cable and rewire internally. Only thing is I can't get into it. Anyone know if this is possible/worth the effort?
Thanks

Depends on the transformer, some are just moulded cases and so the effort and mess you'd make probably wouldn't be worth it. If you can find a way in without destroying it fine but hard to advise without knowing the specifics."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It's for a Pavilion dv4000 series. Part number 383494-001. No screws, but there is a narrow recess all the way round. I dont seem to be able to budge it.0

Probably glued together.
Pop over to Ebay. These things crop up all the time for a few quid. Even a new one shouldn't cost you more than a tenner or so for a third party compatible.0 -
it is likely the transformer is doubly insulated. The case is part of that and has been moulded to ensure compliance of that safety standard. If you were to open it up then you must reseal it. Don't advise covering the whole thing in insulating tape to achieve this as that will also slow cooling and the transformer will be hotter. Unless you are sure that electrical safety is not comprimised by trying to fix I would advise universal charger unit from ebay or similarNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0
