ipod - use on both mac & pc

I'm buying my sister a new ipod for Christmas.
I want to put some music and video on it for her. I have a PC and she has a Mac - will it wipe all the stored data when she plugs it in to her Mac?
I'm still undecided whether to get her a classic or a new nano. The classic is obviously tried and tested so I can't really go wrong. How's the new nano? I know she might like the colour (yes she is the kind of person who would go for style over substance) and the smallness of it all - but are they actually any good?
Thank you!

I have the previous Nano and it's fantastic, I've never had a problem with it, it so tiny, and brilliant in the car and on holidays. The only downside is you can't get as much music on them as the classics. The new Nano has more features, it's slimmer, but more chubby in design.
You won't have a problem moving between Mac and PC, but you'll have to use a 3rd party utility to bring off the music if it isn't already in the library on the other PC, TuneJack is the most popular to do this.
TuneJack - https://www.purpleghost.com - it's made essentially to backup all the music stored on an iPod, especially when you've accidentally ruined your library on the PC, you can restore it easily.
Another great utility is: MediaMonkey - https://www.mediamonkey.com
Hope that helps.0
