Random Grease/dank chemical smell coming from vent in block of flats randomly.

I have had multiple issues with a really strong rubber smell coming from my bathroom that the landlord resolved. I live in large block of flats.

Once every few months I get a sudden really massive odour of what seems to be chip fat, but it has a really bizarre smell, like chemical overlay to it. I have mental illness and I genuinely think that it completely zones me out when it comes in. Recently it had been happenings LOT. My nose can't decipher what it is, but all I know is that it ruins my concentration.

Why would it only come through every now and then. If it were cooking from neighbours wouldn't I get different smells instead of the same distinct horrible smell? Every 6 months or so I get a really strong fish smell also.

I have a feeling someone is cooking some drugs or something on the premises and venting it though to me.

Some of the best best people have mental health issues. :D Spice (illegal highs) and heroin both smell disgusting.

Where in your property are you when you are experiencing this? Is it the same place, same time of day? Do you know what your landlord did to resolve the rubber smell?

The ductwork for your flat's extractor fans should not connect at all to that of another flat. But sometimes the exterior grilles are too close together and the wind is in a certain direction ... Or occasionally there are small splits in old flexible pipes. It is worth tracking and reporting to your landlord, given they were helpful previously.

Wierd questions but bear with me ... have you changed medication or dose recently? Or could you have any dental health issues? Either might heighten your usual sense of smell or even experience 'phantom smells'. As can pregnancy, but your username suggests that is unlikely. :p

I had 'auditory hallucinations' for a while some years ago, turned out to be a side effect of anti-depressants. In my case it was really faint opera music late at night that I assumed was real (nobody I know is even into opera!!).
