Hey love. So glad your little one is feeling better! My two are still super poorly. Loving your meal plan. Have you a recipe for soda bread. I too got into the habit of pre made stuff but I’m trying to go back to my old ways.

So sorry for the delayed reply love, guess who came down with the dreaded bug?! :( Feeling much more like myself today which is good because it’s been chores non stop! Here’s the recipe I use for soda bread: https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2018/10/02/soda-bread-recipe-2/
I like it because I don’t have to go and buy buttermilk which I never have in :) Hope you’re okay lovely :) x
  • Well as my previous post to missy says, I caught the dreaded bug! So was out of action Saturday night and yesterday but DP took little DS out all day and DD and big DS were with their Dad for the weekend. I didn’t spend anything (obviously), and my little sideline seems to be making me a nice profit, I had another £80 in my bank today :) I had £100 from a friend on Saturday as I paid for our spa day in advance so that money is going straight in an envelope for our Christmas savings fund, our goal is £50 per month so this covers Jan and Feb.
Today has been a bit of a spendy day so far, DP is now I’ll with the bug so went to Tesco to buy him Lucozade as it’s the only thing he’d like. He never asks for anything and is feeling a bit sorry for himself bless him so I’m happy to buy him some! The real reason I went to Tesco is that little DS has grown out of all his bodysuits and sleepsuits, I’ve been looking around for some bargain ones (even in the charity shops as you can find some barely used) but nothing in his size. Managed to get some on sale for £10 in total for 5 bodysuits and 3 sleepsuits which will keep him going for now :)

    Happy Monday everyone :) x
  • Today has been good and very little spent (although one near miss). Big DS needed photos for his homework so had to get them printed at £1. Whilst in Tesco I saw their promotion of sportswear and they had a pair of really lovely fitness leggings in my size. Now I do a lot of walking with little DS and 3 classes a week so I’ll get lots of wear out of them, but decided to be firm and that I can make do with what I have (although not sure what I’ll wear as bump gets bigger - will cross that bridge when I come to it!). Felt stupidly proud for not spending £18 that I’d never planned to anyway, but old me would have bought them without a second thought and been £18 poorer.

With the chaos of everyone being poorly meals had gone out the window, so little DS and I got into the kitchen and made a big cottage pie (with a couple of handfuls of oats to bulk it out) and a batch of apple, cinammon and white choc muffins for the cake tin this week as we had all the ingredients, it was nice to be able to cook again after being ill and little DS is getting really good at stirring :)

    Hope everyone’s doing well :)

Well done for resisting those leggings! As I've said in my own DFW, I've been a really silly spender in the past, & that thing of just seeing something & buying it without a moment's thought was one of the reasons I used to live constantly outside my means. I was also really good at convincing myself that something was a good buy. I think we have to accept that we WILL see really good buys, but that still doesn't mean we have to have them! It's a change of mindset, isn't it? I was in debt from aged 19 to my 40s, but since the LBM & discovering a budgeting system that works for us, I can say hand on heart, that I'd never go back to how I used to be.
    Good luck with it all.

Foxgloves you’re so right, it’s definitely a change of mindset. It’s almost scary when I think how much I used to buy that we really didn’t need, but happy and grateful to have had a lightbulb moment before things turned into a nightmare. Thank you for stopping by my diary, I’m off to find yours and subscribe :)

Hello lovely, thank you so much for dropping by and leaving such a nice message! it’s made my day :) x
  • Hello loves

Had a lovely day today, spent the morning decluttering then took little DS for a walk and took him to our lovely library (it’s just been rebuilt and is gorgeous), as the kids and I are all big readers. He was more interested in the crime section (should I be worried?!) but ended up choosing some lovely child friendly(!) books. NSD day today and even though I can’t face the dinner I’d planned there’s a big salad in the fridge so will have that.

I have a bit of a quandary...my sister text a group of us this evening to say she’s planning a big afternoon tea at a cafe for my dear niece’s 2nd birthday, which is lovely except it’s £70 for all of us :( Now I know what DP will say, he’ll pay no problem, but that’s not the point. I don’t know why it makes me feel so uncomfortable that she’s asking us to pay but whenever we invite people to parties, lunches etc we pay for everything. I don’t know why but to me it’s in bad taste to ask for money for OUR celebration. Also I don’t know if someone we’re inviting could afford it and how awful that they can’t join in the celebration because they don’t have the money. Now we COULD find the money, I just look at that £70 and think, wow that’s money that could be paying off my debt.
Am I being completely Scrooge like loves? I love my niece dearly and if my sister had something at home I’d happily bake for England to help....*sigh* We’re not super close so I don’t think I could talk to her without her being offended. I think I need to sleep on this one and see how I feel tomorrow.

Sorry to waffle on, hope everyone is doing well :) x
  • Hi all,

Well it was supposed to be NSD but fate had other ideas! Had the dentist which was free as I’m pregnant, little DS was fascinated and was ‘helping the dentist’ by checking my teeth whilst I was in the chair! As soon as I got in the car I had a call from little DS’ nursery to arrange his induction (at least I thought). The normally very business like head teacher was near tears and explained that they’re having a big party to celebrate National Birdwatching Week, but the lady making the centrepiece (an owl cake) for the children to share as their big treat had let them down last minute and was there any way, any way at all I could make something as I do a lot of baking? Oh and did she mention she needs it for tomorrow?! Both DD and DS went to the same nursery so we know each other well. Of course I couldn’t say no, but had to buy some ingredients. A bit sad as we were doing so well with our NSD as planned, but a good deed is a good deed. Now I have to figure out how to pull this cake off; DP is on a late shift today so won’t be home until 10. I’ve warned him in advance that I may be covered in chocolate icing and cursing when he comes home!
On other, actual debt related news I paid £61 off my next account today :) Chipping away at it, the number doesn’t seem to be going down much but determined to get this debt clear and close these accounts forever.

    Happy Thursday :) x
