New to PPI

Hello,

I know that there is similar questions on here, but there are so many posts im hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I got my first credit card whilst I was a student in around 2002. I also got some store cards, one being a debenhams one at that time too. I can remember the debenhams having PPI on it. Over the years, ive shifted all the credit onto new 0% cards and shut the old ones down.

Ive also moved addresses a fair amount due to living in house shares with friends and work etc.

I don't have much historic paper work past 6 years, I also cant remember all the credit cards that Ive had over the years.

I was going to use a CMC to sort the mess out, but reading the forum posts, its put me off.

Im considering doing it myself, but not sure where to start.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks
Farmio

Unfortunately, you list several insurmountable problems which no claim company has the power to "sort out"
You have no documentary evidence of even the actual finance, let alone if you had PPI policies.

All you can do is write to the firms you are reasonably certain you had dealings with and ask if they have any record of you and PPI. Be sure to use the correct addresses you resided in at the time.

Thanks for coming back to me.

I understand its not an easy one, but thought ive got to start somewhere.

In the letter, can i give a list of different addresses ive lived at over the years and ask them to check against them?

I'd expect you to at least know what individual address you resided at the time in question.

I was at uni for 4 years and at a different address for each of those, plus my parents house. This was about 15 years ago

After uni, everything should have been my parents house until about 5 years ago where i moved to London and have lived in a couple of house shares since.

Not being 100% sure of what address i was in at what time, could I ask them to check a list of addresses or are they likely to refuse?

You should provide all the information you can to help them find your accounts

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks, ill add a list of addresses to the letter and ask them to check against that.

As for all the cards that ive had over the past 15 years, I can only remember some of them, is there a list of suppliers in the UK that may jog my memory?

Thanks for the help on this, im planning on using any payout, if i get one to clear of my credit cards. My new years resolution was to end the year debt free, before then taking out a mortgage! Thanks everyone

No magic list I’m afraid but if you check out the FCA website they have PPI contact details for all companies
