DCA applied default to credit file not original lender

I had an overdraft with a bank that sold the debt to collection agency. Prior to debt agency there was no default showing on any of my credit files. I don't believe the bank ever registered a default. How can i dispute this with DCA as surely they cant create a default themselves. The default date is showing as the date bank closed account.

As long as it's within 6 months of when you defaulted, that's fine.
If it's later, as them to backdate it to an appropriate date.0 -
My issue is the bank closed my account without a default. Can the DCA essentially create a default.0

Yes they can0

Debts must usually be defaulted before sale to a 3rd party, if they are not defaulted, the new owner can charge you interest at the rate the original creditor did.
Once defaulted, the balance is frozen with no further charges.
