Transfering isa with same provider

Yes, it sounds like Halifax bodged what was very obviously a transfer-in request and performed a normal funds transfer instead, then compounded their mistake by giving a hand-wavey explanation about transfer-ins not being possible within the same provider, which is flat out wrong. I don't know Halifax's computer systems but it's possible an inexperienced or inattentive member of staff simply used the wrong screen to action the transfer.
As above: complain, making it clear that their error has put you in a position where you will not be able to subscribe the full amount you otherwise would have, and they should reverse the transaction and reprocess it as a consolidation (i.e. following the usual transfer-in process).: )0 -
I have taken this up with the bank today and yes it appears that they just did a normal funds transfer rather than transfer in. (at least 3 members of staff at Halifax thought it was not possible to do an ISA transfer within the same provider).
I have raised a complaint and hopefully it will now get sorted.
I'll update this post with the outcome.
Thanks to all who have helped so far.0 -
This problem has now been sorted. The complaints department listened to the phone conversation I had on telephone banking and have concluded that I did make my request to do the ISA consolidation clear and have admitted fault. They have corrected the problem and restored my £20000 annual allowance for this year. They have also paid back the lost interest and have paid me a reasonable amount in compensation.
I must say that I have been very impressed with the responses I have received via this forum.
I am no financial wiz kid (although I seem to know more than some of the staff at Halifax) and without the encouragement from this forum I might well have just accepted that I had made a mistake.
A very big thank you to all of you for your support.
Best Regards
