2010 1.6 Vauxhall Astra possible ECU issue

Hi Guys,

Recently i purchased a 2010 1.6 Petrol Astra, then i discovered that the car struggles to start keeps cranking and eventually it starts after couple of attempts and the management light on. The garage who sold me the car fobbed me off and i am trying to obtain reports to gather all of the required documents to file a claim with the small claims court.

Anyway, the car has been at a garage that told me they spend a lot of time trying to get at the problem by checking all the sensors, the timing belt and everything else however all is in order. The bill for this is £500 which i am not willing to pay because the car is still exactly how i took it to them. They are saying every time they plug the diagnostics tool in they clear the fault, when they run the car the light come on again and give a totally different fault code while diagnosed !

Took the car back yesterday and i realized that when i turn the key to start it very quickly ( a quick sharp turn) the car starts straight away every time !! but the management light it's still on code 21 which suggest the off side light is broken while it's not.
This is clearly an electrical problem but i am struggling to understand why when i turn the key quickly it starts !! and how is this connected to the ECU ?

IF anyone can let me know their thoughts on this i would appreciate it as i am lost and trying to find a solution to the route cause of this get a quote go through court get the money and fix it before MOT runs out in April!

Thank you all in advance for your input

Anass

Pay the garage for the work they have done. You asked them to try and find the fault.

The fault is intermittent so could take many hours to diagnose. Not happy paying the bill for that take it back to the seller.

Although at the end of the day it is an 8 year old car.

  • It is an 8 year old car but i am trying to build a case so i can start a claim against the garage who sold me the car to recover repairs money.

I appreciate your interest but a feedback regarding the actual fault is what i am after here.

    Thanks
