What is the quality of your freeview signal?
In the settings there should somewhere be a menu that shows you the signal quality. Make sure you're on one of the channels that fail.
Does it happen on all channels or just some?
Have you checked your local transmitter to see if there have been any changes?

If the signal quality is not 99% - 100% then I would look at the quality of your aerial and making sure you have a good one suitable for your transmitter and that it is mounted correctly

Does the recording only fail when you're already recording something else?

Does the HDR have two aerial inputs, or one, does it have a short loop cable on the back?
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

    Excellent.

    Again excellent

Hard to say, not used a great deal. I'm more likely to record ITV, C4 or C5 so that I can skip through the ads.

A while back, this is not a new problem.

If the signal quality is not 99% - 100% then I would look at the quality of your aerial and making sure you have a good one suitable for your transmitter and that it is mounted correctly
Good quality chimney mounted aerial, amplified six way splitter fed directly from aerial which then feeds 3 TVs plus this recorder. So aerial is not looped through the Humax then on to the TV

Does the recording only fail when you're already recording something else?
    Don't think so.

Does the HDR have two aerial inputs, or one, does it have a short loop cable on the back?
    Short loop I think.

    Thanks, answers above.

We had similar with our old Hummy. Start by doing a complete "Factory Reset" - this will set everything back to initial conditions. You wil have to re-enter your chosen settings, and re-scan for channels. Note down any settings before you do the reset. You may also choose to "Format the disk" - this will delete all your existing recordings.

Don't want to lose some of the recordings! Will a Factory Reset delete them or only if also I format the disk?

I occasionally get that with my Digitalstream PVR (2011), whereby the programme stays in the schedule even though it's missed the recording for whatever reason.
The way I clear it is to delete the series link, then set it up again.

Well as I recall, Factory Settings and Format the Disk are two, separate options - but your machine may differ. If you don't want to lose recordings (from a box that is showing faults), perhaps you may consider what backup you have of these recordings......

Well it is not the end of the world if they get lost!

It is just I would prefer to put up with the current problems until I get round to watching the programs rather than risk wiping them all.

Make a note of which programs are there and see how many are available on iPlayer etc. Watch the ones that aren't then format.

Another thought, do you live in an area that requires a 4g filter?

If you think interference might be the problem you can get a free filter, or you can change your aerial to a narrowband which is ideal for your transmitter or you can change your amplifier/booster for one that filters 4g.

What I do is copy recordings I really want to keep onto a memory stick, and from there onto my PC's external drive - each recording consists of 3 data files. The copy option (it's not quick) is in File Manager in Options in Media. Then the recording can be deleted from the hard drive of the Humax. If need be they can be restored the same way - or played direct from a stick if you want - or, they can be played on the PC by a media player (I use VLC).

Rarely, we do get a problem with a recording causing the PVR to reboot; deleting that recording makes it go away.

A while ago we had some interference from a bush which had grown too tall.. I guess that's unlikely if your dish is on the chimney! :)

Ours is 10 years old too, and still OK - though OH keeps recording stuff she never gets round to seeing :) !

Thanks, wasn't aware of that. TVs always seem fine with excellent picture and no interference regardless of weather etc.

Wasn't aware mine had a USB socket? I'll have a look later!

If it does but is very slow, presumably only USB1?
