Been putting BG off for almost a year, waiting until they roll out SMETS2.

Been told today that they now are - but remain slightly skeptical. Can anybody confirm?

Suppliers can fit SMETS1 until March, so best to await until April if you really want a SMETS2 :)

As suspected, gave them another call, and they confirmed SMETS1 still being fitted. Seems the appointments team will say anything to get someone booked in.

British Gas Wales arrived today and were going to fit a SMETS1 meter until I challenged. Returning in 2 weeks with a SMETS2. Said majority of meters are SMETS1 and no cut off time to stop

Not quite true. Any credit smets1 meters can still be used but wont count towards targets. suppliers can still install paygo smets1 until later in the year. also suppliers will still install smets1 in smets1 to smets1 replacements.
    Honest? Probably......sort of.

Do you mean SMETS2v3, commonly called SMETS3? The hardware is the same as a SMETS2, its a firmware upgrade that makes it 'SMETS3' or SMETS2v3

EDIT: Actually its only the elec meter that is the same hardware. The gas is different hardware as it will be dual band so it can speak to a dual band comms hub.

  • When you change over to smart meters do they change both gas and electric meters at the same time or only the meter for which company you are with for gas or electric (if you are with different companies)?

Well when I got my BG smart meter in October it was a "later" SMETS1 which is fully updateable over-the-air to SMETS2.

Do I believe that...? Not sure.
