Party wall is 2 plasterboards with cavity between them?

Builder says our party wall is just 2 plasterboards with cavity between them, he said maybe it's double layer of plasterboard on each side. We want to soundproof the bedrooms as we can hear everything the neighbours do. We thought part walls is brick, cavity and plasterboard stuck on beams. House was built in the 1990s by housing association and was a quick job based on what we have seen so far. Can it really be just plasterboard separating us from neighbours? We are in end of terrace house.

You should be able to open up the plasterboard on your side and put a torch in and look, i presume thats what your builder has done already so see no need to doubt them but maybe you need to do it yourself to be sure?
Pretty scary if that's the case.
You'd need some specialist advice, there are various approaches to soundproofing which would depend upon the exact structure.0 -
If it is, you could just pull all of your side down, pack the void with Rockwool sound slab then board up with two layers of sound board (heavier plasterboard) on your side with the joints between two layers staggered.
Messy but it would improve the sound levels a lot.Signature on holiday for two weeks0
