NATWEST sent my Sole account details to someone else

Hi,

I’m not sure what I should do about this, but my husband received two letters from NATWEST listing Sole accounts that I have with them as well as our joint accounts.
I feel this is in breach of my privacy and leads me to think about what and how my personal bank information is being shared by NATWEST.
Surely I should be able to have my own accounts and keep them private?
Probably just ranting atm, but I am cross
Any input/advice appreciated. Thanks :)

  • I can understand why you feel like this is a breach of your privacy. Not very good due diligence by Natwest, at all!

Maybe give them a call and explain the situation, and see if you can get any compensation? Or at least an explanation for the reasoning for this. Also, if you do contact them, maybe query how your personal information is ACTUALLY being shared, for clarification.

    Just my thoughts!

Seems like a clear breach of the Data Protection Act to me.

You can formally complain to NatWest and/or report them to the Information Commissioner but in either case it's probably worth stopping to consider what you'd actually want from them in response, e.g. apologies, assurances, etc....

Natwest have form on this. Years ago, they sent me statements and a cheque book of a random person. Not just once, but several times, and even after they had been told. There was no connection between me and that other person - totally different names, addresses, dates of birth, and even opposite sex.

I would raise a formal complaint but keep it factual and leave emotions out. https://personal.natwest.com/personal/support-centre/how-to-complain.html

Thank you all for you comments and advice, much appreciated. I will give them a call and look into the formal complaint process. Need assurances this sort of thing won’t happen again.
    Cheers

I think there is a strong possibility that they may even be able to glean a little bit of good old bit of compensation from NatWest too.
