Confusion on switching (British Gas)
Hi, I'm with Utility Warehouse & have done the MSE comparison which shows I can save £74 a year with British Gas (bigger company so I feel more comfortable) however when I look in details my unit rate per kWh is a little lower with UW however they charge me a monthly standing charge of just over £5 for each service. Are there any BG customers that can tell me if they have a monthly charge or if it is just the per unit cost?

If you look at the tariff details it should show the standing charge and unit rate. It is likely that when the comparison site refers to a saving it is comparing to the standard variable tariff that you will default to if you don't switch. If you compare with your current tariff, then it is likely that you will not see a saving, but will be choosing the tariff the will cost you the least.0

The MSE CEC gives you full details of the traiffs so you should be able to see what is involved in both.
Standing charges are usually specified as a daily amount.
If a supplier charges a monthly fee, the CEC will usually apply this as a daily charge even though this may not be entirely correct e.g the same monthly charge may apply to only part of a month if you switch mid month.0 -

I think you need to deliberately change the manner in which the MSE CEC usually calculates the saving cost to be shown this figure; it's not the default method of calculation the CEC uses. - it doesn't have to as it is not an Ofgem accredited comparison site.
(although it uses tariff data from MSM which is an Ofgem accredited comparsion site)0 -
It appears the OP has been contemplating switching supplier for the last 18+months
