ESA assessments.

Hi,I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this happens regularly.
I took my aunt to a re-assessment for ESA,she is in the support group and is not very mobile due to her health problems which is why I had to drive her there.
On arrival this afternoon we were told that due to my aunts case she would need to see a specialist and that they didn't anticipate being able to fit her in this afternoon even though her appointment had been made three weeks ago.
They made another appointment for two weeks today and we were sent home.
We are hoping this won't happen next time we go back.
Is it a regular occurr

They won't know whether or not they need additional information from a specialist until they see her. Now they do so next time she goes it'll be to see the specialist. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I see,the thing is they only asked her for her identity and then didn't ask her to speak to anyone else. The gentleman at the desk just came back with her file and put her ID details in it and then said with a case as complicated as yours you need to see a specialist.
I would of thought they should have realised she needed a specialist opinion before they sent her the appointment also it seems ridiculous to go through all this as she is due to receive state retirement pension in a few months.
She's beginning to think she should just not bother and wait for her pension but she'll be a few months short of money if she does. Thanks for your reply.0 -
I too have seen ESA reviews carried out just a few months before claimant reaches pension age and ESA will end anyway. Seems a ridiculous waste of time for the DWP as well as causing unnecessary stress to the claimant.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

It is irritating but worth waiting three weeks for. I always believe in stubborness, refusing to let nonsense make you give in lol. There is a lot of this in benefits.0

A suggestion was made by staff in our office when I was working on ESA that nobody should have a review in the final 12 months prior to reaching State Pension age. We were told that it seemed like a really sensible suggestion so, needless to say, we heard nothing more on the subject.0 -
Sorry can’t find how to start a new thread.
My wife has moved her assessment from a long way away to nearer our home which they have agreed to.
Does this count as a changed/ missed appointment please.?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yes, that does count as a canceled/changed appointment and she won't be able to cancel another.0
