No Gas Bills
Apologies if I've done this wrong, I did read the sticky thread, but it's a bit old, and I'm not sure if the rules are the same.
This is a bit of a rolling mess, So apologies for that also.
Biritsh Gas is my supplier.
I moved into this housing association house about 10 years ago. I got behind on my electric. They fitted a prepayment meter and I've since paid that debt off.
I got behind on my gas, not sure of the date but it was before 2013. I contacted them and they came out to fit a prepayment meter for the gas also.
When they came to fit it, they said that the gas line was unsuitable, so they couldn't fit the new meter. They arranged to change the gas line. I'm unsure of the dates, but they did this.
Then they never came to fit the pre-payment meter. I stopped getting bills.
April 2018. We received a letter that British Gas wanted a meter reading, and that Cadent were going to do it. He turned up in May, said he was there to turn the gas off. We showed him the letter, so he phoned the office, took a meter reading and that was that.
August 2018, A different Cadent guy turned up without an appointment to turn the gas off. We just happened to be in. I explained to him that a guy had been out in May, showed him the letter. Explained that the previous guy had phoned in a meter reading. This guy called the office, did another meter reading and said it was all sorted. We asked him what we had to do now, and he said "you don't need to do anything".
I've been in touch with British Gas today to try to sort it out. Over chat on the website. According to their records, my Gas account was closed in July 2013. With a debt of around £800.
So it looks like I haven't been charged anything for the gas I've used since 2013. I haven't been receiving any bills at least.
Could someone please give me some advice as to move forward with this?
Does the OFGEM back billing rules apply? I've looked into it and I just get confused.
So far I've read the citizen's advice page, the OFGEM page and the British Gas page.
