Maternity money

Good Evening all,
Abit long winded but hope this makes sense. My wife is expecting our second child 😁 at the end of May. At the moment she is a full time NHS student. The problem we have is her only income is the student loan 9250 a year which is enough with my pay to keep our head above water. The problem we have as we are very far from parents it looks like she will have to take a year off and with that no student finance. As I earn around 42k a year we are not entitled to any help that we can find. It may sound like i earn alot but due to some foolish behaviour on my part i have alot of debt that i am paying off for the next 3 years which after bills doesn't leave me much to cover us.
We have looked at maternity pay and allowance (but as she has not been employed is not eligible). Done online calculators with no luck apart from the child benefit 20 poundish a week.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance

The only idea I can think of is to talk to one of the debt charities (step change is as good as any) to see if they can offer any advice on you debts,
Welcome to MSE and congrats on the baby.0
