Do I notify my insurance ?
I was involved in an accident last night where a taxi went into the back of me whilst I was stationary at traffic lights. I got out of my car and approached his taxi to take photographs (which I did get of the number plate but nothing else) and went back to my car to get some paper to exchange details. While doing this he reversed at speed and sped off. I have been in contact with the local authority and the taxi licensing department and today I have been told that the council have been in contact with the taxi company and he denies driving and also denies being part of the accident even though he apparently rang the taxi office telling them he had been involved in an accident.
Just so you know there was no witnesses, no CCTV and no dash cam footage.
The council officer contacted me today explaining that he had done some research into this and it was a taxi from another area so I would have to contact that council licensing authority which I did.
In the meantime I contacted the police as driving off without exchanging details is an offence however they did not want to know and told me that it was one for the insurance and taxi licensing authority (however I have logged the incident with the police).
The licensing authority contacted me back explaining that they have requested an information form to find out who was driving and what had happened and they will recieve this information in the next 72 hours.
I have had an initial car inspection due to damage and they have advised £504 worth of damage. My excess is £900 and my insurance website states that if they have been proven to be at fault that they will pay the damages and the excess however due to him not taking responsibility how likely is this to happen and is it worth me contacting my insurance to make a claim or do I just notify my insurance of an accident to inform them ? Or do I do nothing ?
Any help you be appreciated thank you.

Whatever else you do, you must tell your insurer.0

I personally wouldn't let my insurer know about a very minor incident where the issue can be cleared up with a few hundred beer tokens but in your more complicated situation with police involvement then deffo tell your insurance company.
Just because you tell your insurer about the incident you aren't committed to making a claim.
If the worst comes to the worst and you aren't able to claim off the other driver you can get it repaired yourself without having to make a claim / pay the excess.
Either way the incident would be recorded by the insurance company (whether you claim or not) and may have an effect on your next premium. Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0
