Hi All,

I spotted the council today cutting grass, the grass did not look particularly long and I do wonder if this is this too early to begin mowing grass?

  • Its fine to cut grass. Its been quite mild recently and the grass has put on some growth. I cut a lawn today, 1 degree expected in my region tonight, the lawn looks smart and will hold until we have some mild weather again.

Better tell our sheep then! they usually have it down quite tight by now, but as it's still growing, they'll need a few weeks more.

I will certainly need the brushcutter out soon, if it's too damp for the mower on what passes for lawns here.

Although ''fings ain't wot they uster be,' thanks to global warming, don't be complacent. Here, we had the 'Beast from the East' on March 1st last year, followed by a mini-blizzard on 18th March.

I have never cut grass in January before but with the dry and relatively mild weather of the past few weeks, I am looking at quite lush grass here and considering it!

So far this year our high/low temps have been 10.5/3.6 C (Far south west)
  • I am looking at cutting my grass within a few days, it has definitely grown just lately, I have previously cut it in December, I just make sure there is not going to be a frost on the night of the day I cut it.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Our won't be cut for months yet, the rabbits are keeping it down quite well at the moment.

Well, just cut several lawns, and it was easier than expected once I'd convinced the mower it was spring. Poor thing was hibernating, but it'll be all the better for the good going-over it needed in order to make it fire-up.....
