The Big Four ........ will they ever learn ??

Big Four price war: Supermarkets slash prices by up to 50 per cent in a bid to stem the exodus of middle-class shoppers to Aldi and Lidl
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6567351/Supermarkets-slash-prices-50-bid.html
When will they wake up .... when will they understand that middle class shoppers are now savvy to the scam in their car parks
When will they learn that restricting customers how long they can stay for MEANS LESS SALES. ?
I know that Aldi and Lidl use parking cowboys and customers play Russian roulette for the sake of cheapies and the risk of an extra £100 on top of their shopping trolley
The big four could easily grab back business by offering a much better shopping experience which excludes the cowboys

You're too embedded in the psyche of this board ... the average shopper doesn't give a passing thought to parking restrictions/times when planning their daily/weekly/monthly shop. If the "big 4" changed to allowing 3 hours (instead of the 1.5 hours in the likes of Aldi/Lidl) it wouldn't make one jot of a difference to the shopper's decision.0

This forum ? good grief no, based on talking to many people. In my area, Tesco is a no go supermarket0 -
I have, on various previous occasions, had cause to write to the Head Offices of all the Big Four, as well as Waitrose and the Co-Op, to point out examples of how their policy of allowing PPC scammers to operate is driving away customers.
They all have Estates departments which look after their premises, and without exception, they all take the view that they have to have 'parking management' in their car parks, in response to customer complaints about not being able to find a space at busy times.
Strangely though, there is a big Tesco store here a couple of miles outside the town centre (adjacent to J3 of the M40), where there never has been any PPC involved, and although it can get very busy you can always find a space, and there are never any problems with parking.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
I agree BP, they were all sold a pup about "abuse"
I have yet to see a car park crammed full (except xmas)
There is a mega huge car park in Tesco's Caversham, not far from you and there is always at least 100 empty spaces but they do have parking vermin.
Where vermin are used, pound for pound, the vermin will earn more than Tesco. Huge mentality problem with the CEO's0 -
They all claim it's "parking management" but to me that means actual feet on the ground managing abuse of disabled parking etc. Not using an unreliable camera system and inflexible software to auto generate .
My local Halfords with less than 20 parking spaces can afford to employ a real person to stop abuse of their limited parking , why can't the others ?Ex forum ambassador

I saw on a (small, can't recall which one) PPC website at the weekend, that they were claiming to new clients that they had increased the number of cars attending a retail park, just as a result of having ANPR. Their website had an example where they claimed to increase cars 'in' by 600 (per month? I can't recall...).
I thought, tell me another one...
ParkingEye also tell their clients certain things about average footfall and how their system can improve numbers of customers on site...and how their all singing all dancing 'system' can provide 'reports' about customer/car numbers...
Hmmmm...we all know what they say about statistics.
What I wonder is, have any retailers ever actually tested the reports figures and confirmed what they are being told by their fat cat parking firms?
Unless a car park is choc a block with imaginary rogue parkers taking up all the spaces, ANPR has never been proved to increase customers, at all! How could it?
ANPR simply pees people off and drives them away once stung. High time some retailers stopped believing the 'reports about footfall' fed to them by the very people in whose interests it would be, to (potentially) make the figures up.
Check the facts yourself, make some spot checks - are you being fooled into letting a wolf into the hen coop, Supermarkets?
The retailers must be utterly deluded if they think ANPR brings in more custom.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

There's a feeling of personal privacy violation every time I drive into any car park with ANPR cameras, as I know they are just there to catch me out, absolutely nothing else! Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

So cover your numberplate. What law says you have to show that data to a camera?
On street - yes of course. But not in private car parks. No-one is obliged to smile for the camera.
