Hi all
At the beginning of December I started a switch from SSE to British Gas as my fixed tariff ended in the middle of December. They emailed to say that both gas and electricity supply would be taken over from 18th December. I heard nothing and then on 2nd January, SSE debited my account for both gas and electricity at a new, higher amount (£30 more than I had been paying in total) and British Gas had debited for the electricity to only. I got in touch with British Gas who said that SSE hadn’t allowed the transfer of the gas. I always pay the bills on time and am currently £103 in credit with SSE for my gas. I then got in touch with SSE again who have said that they don’t know why the gas transfer was rejected and suggest I ask British Gas to process it again and to check they had the correct meter point and serial number for my meter. (They also agreed to refund the electricity payment that had been taken)
My question is, I have now overpaid for my gas by around £20 because it hasn’t switched and I have been on the phone for 2 hours trying to sort it out. Which energy company is at fault here!? Not sure who to take it up with!
Thanks for reading!

British Gas - your new supplier does all the arrangements. Has BG asked for meter readings ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Ok I’ll follow this up further with British Gas, thank you. Yes I have meter readings on 4th December to British Gas and funnily enough, the gas meter reading is showing on my SSE online account for that day!0

You new supplier is generally responsible for managing a switch. But if the old supplier has objected, they will be the ones that will know why the objection has been made; the new supplier will only generally be able to say the switch has been objected to by the old supplier.
Regarding payment, why not ask the supplier to place you on a tariff where you can pay on receipt of bill.
It won't be cheaper overall, but you will only pay for what you have used.0
