Debt collectors: Robust response or ignore?

Hi,
I've just been reading the Newbies thread to learn more about handling debt collectors letters. I know the common advice is to just ignore them, but elsewhere on the forum people have talked about sending a "robust response" - which helps to avoid the PPC viewing them as an easy target.
Does anyone have recent experience with sending this kind of response?

Debt collectors can't actually do anything other than make recommendations to their client. No matter how robustly you respond there is no way they will tell their ppc paymaster to leave you alone.
You can respond to them but it is going to be a complete waste of time and probably frustrating to the extreme when they completely ignore every point you make.0 -
Fair enough, perhaps best to reserve time and energy for the real fight (if needed).
I've reported them to Trading Standards instead, just for good measure.0 -

The only robust thing to DO is IGNORE the MORONS

Excellent info, thanks. What a bunch of scumbags they are.0

I doubt the PPC office robots would even see the response let alone think about acting on it.0
