My 6 year old CCJ

Options
Hi all.

I’m after some advice.

I have a CCJ on my credit file for £217 from way back, 21/02/2013 is the date it was given at NORTHAMPTON CCMCC.
I’m not even sure what it was for, I’m assuming it was an unpaid parking ticket or motoring fine of some sort.

Am I right in thinking it will fall off my credit file next month as that will be 6 years and disappear forever? Or Is it worth trying to pay it now so it doesn’t come back to haunt me later?

Kind regards
Dan

It will fall off your credit file, but the debt will remain enforceable.

Are they likely to try and enforce it for such a small amount? And does that mean I could get another ccj for the same debt?

You'll only get the one CCJ.

Whether they decide to enforce it up to them. The fact they bothered to get a CCJ for it in the first place suggest they might.

Thanks, Am I best off waiting for them to contact me after it has fallen off my credit file then?
I’ve looked into paying a ccj off in the past and it didn’t seem an easy thing to do, going through courts etc. it seems like a lot of effort.

I was going to go on the electoral roll soon because I’m trying to really sort my credit rating out. This will make it easy for them to find me?

    of course it will
  • They'll be able to see linked addresses on your credit file anyway.

Don't try and improve your rating or score as it's not real - look to improve your credit history

This is my plan, hence asking about this ccj. I’m trying to pay off all my old debts and defaults on my file. This ccj is the only thing left
  • They can still go back to the court to try and get the debt reinforced again - although it won't appear on your files, if granted they can try again to get it - bailiffs, attachment of earnings etc

I believe your creditor will have to return to court and explain why enforcement was not sought earlier. Because of the length of time lapsed from the original CCJ date, I believe a court will have to hear very powerful arguments to allow enforcement after such a long time.

  • I've got a CCJ coming off my history this year, i'm keen to see what impact it has on my credit rating. It's the only bad factor on my file now, all other payments up to date etc.
