anyone ladies had HORMONE INBALANCE

hi

wonder if any women out there have been dignosed with hormone inbalance and anything that helps.

Not been dignosed yet but: and its long:

went down with underactive thyroid 2.5 y ago. Specialist and doc had never seen one so bad tsh score of 278, extremely bad.
Anyway put on thyroxin. A year later tsh down to 1(1 is better for me than 3) but mood swings (just one of things and the one i cant cope with most) still horrendous( i would be sectioned if all was known)
Then dignosed with Fibromyalgia
On anti depressants for last 1.5 y(on and off),
Mood wings are vile and never seem to leave me completely ( flare up and die down slightly) .

Thought it had (mood swings) gone over the last 4/5 weeks, mood is great , thinking great and want to participate in life again. I thought most of my moods had ceased, i wasnt suddenly errupting for nothing.
Mood swing back last night, directed at youngest, had him in tears and still kept going (no reason for it he wanted to give me something made at school and it was in his bag , in dads car. he thought it was in my car , i suddenly flared up went crazy cos he was an idiot couldnt remember who had picked him up from school etc etc..

In fact it had started slightly previous to this when i was putting on ebay and it just wasnt doing as i wanted
I am so scared (of effect on children) and want life just to end or leave household completely (rational thought not depressive thought ) cause i do not want to put my family through this crap again ( previous episodes of this i wasnt as clear thinking)

Can i say at this point up until i was dignosed i was perfect health , very very easy going( oldest son testimony to this, and he has so easy going personality like i was) never 1 bit of depression, in fact couldnt understand why anyone had to be depressed cos it s a matter of thought .

I have been to docs all the time, getting fed up going and they put it down to depression cos of my chronic condition (fibro) .

I know i am not depressed at moment ( well yesterday i wasnt) today i am down but not depressed as i cannot stand to treat my family like this and am so worried that the moods are back.

Anyway, been reading up internet on hormone probs, and i have loads of the symptoms.

I cant go to the docs as weekend and will take me till mid week at least to get appointment,

What i want to know is :

what do they do to test for it , and also is there anything i can take in meantime to alleivate the symptoms (if it is this) .

Sorry for such long post hope someone can help .

  • Cheepskate, big hugs to you and I can fully appreciate how hard it must have been for you to be open about what has been happening.
I have a similar prob because I am sensitive to oestrogen, my hormone levels behave normally but throughout the month your levels change and when there is a peak I get similar problems to what you described.
I also hav reactive hypoglycaemia and I know when my sugars are out it can be much worse for some reason.
For me I have finally achieved a level pegging with things and this has been largely due to an excellent and support Dr. I take anti-depressants and was encouraged to stop taking the pill as having tried many types none suited me. The first month being off the pill was no different but by the next it seemed to have settled.
Also I had counselling and part of that was giving me coping mechanisms so when things started to get on top of me I could handle it.

    Hi Cheepskate
Understand the problems you are having. Don't know how much you know about thyroid problems but the link below will point you in the right direction (see page 2).

    http://www.michaelvanstraten.com/factsheets/thyroid.pdf

There are some foods which interfere with the uptake of thyroid hormones and if possible try and avoid them. A low GI load diet is very helpful, also cinnamon is good it helps to stabilise blood sugar levels. A good sprinkling on porridge in a morning is nice and for a treat put some raisins and sultanas in but leave the sugar alone.

Are you aware that you should not eat for an hour after taking your thyroid medication in the morning.

If you are in an area which uses fluoride in tap water then read up on this as years ago in America they used flouride to treat overactive thyroids to slow them up. Imagine the effect if you take your tablets with this water. Bottled water without flouride in is good as is flouride free toothpase.
It is possible to have flouride filters put on your water supply but they cost about £250.00 plus fitting. A Britta filter won't do it.

Give the above a try and I really hope you start to feel better. Remember miracles don't happen overnight but with a little patience you will get there.

Have your bloods checked regularly, as early as possible in the morning and don't go to the gym or ride your bike to the doctors before hand your system needs to be as calm as possible.

    Take care.

My daughter has been on thyroxine since she was 2 weeks old and this is not the case as we have been told by her paediatric endocrinologist. When she was young enough to still posset some breast milk back she was supposed to have it 15mins before feed but that was so we knew it had been absorbed. Since that stopped she had it as part of the normal breakfast routine.

At the moment she takes it at bedtime bec ause she is having sytron with her meals and that does affect the absorption of it.

Don't do anything that might affect your thyroid function without speaking to your endocrinologist first... If your thyroid problems are being managed soley by your GP, ask to be refered back to an endocrinologist... This could have 2 beneficial effects: a) you won't screw up your thyroid control and b) endocrinology is the study of hormones (and there effects on the body)... If you do have another imbalance somewhere, then they will be able to diagnose and treat you...

Roughly how old are you? Any chance you might be menopausal?
