Investec Bank

Following the savings rate information from the MSE site I opened an account with Investec.
The trouble is they email you when they have your cash telling you to phone them up for a temporary password & the number is NOT free!!!
I called the number today, got the usual we are busy rhetoric & accompanying music for several minutes & then the phone goes dead.
How many more times will I have to try to call them & pay to get through. It is an 0845 number which means they could be taking a cut as well. This is a scam as far as I am concerned & I shall be going to the branch they have in Exeter & cause some grief.

If a telephone number starts 0845 you can usually use 0345 instead and 03 numbers are included in landline and mobile call plans.

I thought the FCA now required financial institutions to have an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number for customer contact anyway?

Regulated financial companies are not allowed to have an 0845 number. Hence why you usually see a local rate number instead.

So, where are you getting this 0845 number from?
Its not from their website. That shows 0330 123 3655 which is a local rate call and is included in inclusive minutes and phone packages.

YAY. Its only Monday and the MSE rule of scam posts has already been met this week. Its not a scam. It is you making something up and calling it a scam.

FCA regulations effective 26 October 2015 have banned banks, card companies and insurers from offering premium rate 084, 087 or 09 numbers for contact by existing customers. If there is an 0845 number on official communications from your bank (such as 0845 366 6333 or 0845 603 9176) you should complain to the FCA as well as seeking a refund of the call charges from the bank.

If you found the 0845 number (perhaps 0845 601 110*) on a third-party unofficial website, the number is effective!y a scam. These "call connection services" can be reported to PSA when they operate on 087 or 09 numbers. From 16 January 2019, the rules are changing and they can also be reported to PSA if they operate on 084 numbers.

Just two days ago, someone complained on Trustpilot that the bank sent a communication asking them to call an 0845 number https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/investec.com
This breach of FCA regulation GEN 7.2 should be reported to the FCA.

Same person as on this thread?

Perhaps this person isnt a real consumer and is intentionally trying to cause negative coverage towards investec.
