    Yes but only the previous keepers tax.

    When you normally buy a car you tax it using the V5C/2 immediately and then the V5C is sent off a few weeks later and then the change of keeper is processed; the tax you paid using the V5C/2 does not get cancelled, it carries on. Only the tax paid by the previous keeper gets cancelled.

    So the OP's friend has done just this and taxed it using the V5C/2 since she bought it. The only difference is the longer than usual period of time that has elapsed.
