Unpaid direct debit

Options
I am using Post Office Online Saver for Direct Debit payment to Tesco Bank.

I found out there after few days, there is "UNPAID DIRECT DEBIT" that return/credit to my Post Office saving account. Making me missing one DD in tesco bank and lost the 3% interest.

Is there a way to complaint?

  • i mean is it worth to ask/complaint about unpaid direct debit?
  • Why wasn't the Direct Debit paid? Did you have sufficient funds in your Tesco account?
  • yes, sufficient fund. I also have no idea why it is not paid.

I would contact Tesco bank first, probably by phone because you should get a faster response.See if the DD was ever presented

Is this a direct debit or standing order?

If standing order that you have set up from your Post Office account, then contact them to enquire.

If it is a direct debit that Tesco has arranged and not taken, then speak with them.

It says Direct Debit or DD four times in the OP, so I think your question is superfluous.

Indeed, but to be fair it also says it's about a "Direct Debit payment to Tesco Bank" and I'd wager we're really talking about a payment from Tesco to PO....

That was going to be my next question, as the OP also mentions the money being returned to PO account.
  • alandaniel132 can you please confirm something. The money was to be taken by direct debit from your Tesco account and credited to your PO Savings account but the process failed - is that correct?

I ask because there are several contradictions in your original post and I know there have been issues in the past when trying to advise on the process of setting up direct debits to qualify for interest on the Tesco account.

What you appear to be saying is that a direct debit from your PO Savings account to your Tesco account has failed. That is the wrong way around. To qualify for interest the direct debit needs to take money from your Tesco account and pay it into you PO Savings account.
