General Power of Attorney and NS&I

It was the older enduring powers of attorney which only took effect on loss of capacity.
No - could be used (with the donor's consent) while the donor had capacity - if the donor became incapable, it had then to be registered with the OPG.
I know this because relative used EPA for his relative until around eighteen months ago when the donor was diagnosed with dementia and the OPG process had to be followed.0 -
Still waiting for NS&I to call me back! Will chase tomorrow. I have just called Amex re some unused travellers cheques and they are just as bad. Spoke to someone in India who said I needed first to take my Dad into his bank along with his ID and mine and get them cashed with him there. I told her the whole point of POA is that I become that person. Otherwise he might as well do all of this himself!
It became clear that she didn't understand how GPOA worked and I ended up explaining what I thought I needed to do and she agreed!!
Thing is that I might be wrong and have a wasted journey. Why, why, why do institutions put untrained inexperienced people into the call centres. I even originally called the Bereavement Helpline but they put me onto the offshore team.
I suspect if I turn up at my local Nationwide bank where I registered the POA and where my Father banks they will help me because they know me. The POA has been registered with them but what a parlaver!0
