Car insurance without registration

I am (hopefully) taking delivery of a new car on Thursday and am in a Catch 22 situation...

The lease company will not deliver until they see that the vehicle is adequately insured. They will not register the car until the day of delivery.

Although I can get a quotation, my insurer will not let me pay for (and thus confirm and purchase) the policy without a registration number.

Anyone been in this situation and know a solution?

The lease company will not offer seven day free insurance etc.

You can get insurance based on the VIN. Once the car is registered you then tell the insurance company the registration number.

When I've bought a new car, I've agreed the registration number with the dealer a few days before they register it - they normally have a small selection.

As above, I got a new car, I had the plate agreed with the dealer from the 3 or so they had, once registered I got my insurance updated with the new plate ahead of delivery.

Don't forget your VED as well if you didn't ask the dealer to sort it

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
