Like the garage that replaced a track rod end, and got it so wrong that my car couldn't make it round a mini-roundabout. But could make astonishingly tight left turns!0 -
Oh I've come across some shocking independents too.

Hence why I said *half decent* and not *all*.
But yes, I once rocked up to a indie garage once expecting to get 2 new tyres fitted. Owner said he didn't keep tyres in stock and would order them and phone me when they are ready to fit. Expecting to get a phone call the next day at the latest I went on my merry way. I didn't receive that phone call until nearly 2 weeks later. By then I had already had new tyres fitted elsewhere. Ironically the owner was an ex Kwik Fit employee.0 -
It doesn't really matter what they tell you over the phone. Once they have your car up on the winch and have invented three different problems with your suspension and exhaust, put the wrong tyres the wrong way round on the wrong wheels, and reversed your tracking and alignment, you will be paying a random 3 figure sum regardless.
And dont forget you will need discs and pads all round as well0 -
Kwik Fit aren't cheap anyway, they rely on people who perhaps aren't that savvy with cars and just want it done.
Like PC World who only sell components because people need them there and then and can't wait for online orders to arrive Kwik Fit offer convenience. They're the only tyre fitter open on a Saturday afternoon and Sunday and after 5pm around here. For many people working full time they're the only option they have without taking time off work. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
