Looking to rent for the first time and have a stupid question

How are energy costs calculated in a building that has multiple apartments? Is each individual apartment required to have its own usage meter? Or can the entire building have just one meter that is paid for by the landlord and split between tenants? The property I'm looking at would have originally been an entire single living space, but has now been converted into 3 or 4 apartments. I assume it's completely plausible that there is just one meter. I think I definitely use more power that the average person, so I wouldn't want other tenants' bills to rise after I move in!

Plausible, but pretty unlikely. Find out, and come back and let us know if you're right.jimmydean1 wrote: »I assume it's completely plausible that there is just one meter.0 -

Go here and put in the postcode:
https://www.outfoxthemarket.co.uk/Quote.aspx
It'll list the addresses in the supply database. For example I put in CF24 3AJ and I get lots of 'Flat X, Y Gordon Road' as well as things like 'Ground Floor Front Flat' and 'Landlords Lighting'.
You'll probably find your flat has a separate feed listed. That means there will be a separate meter.0
