Nissan NV200 Van engine ticking?

My engine has been ticking very loudly over the last couple of weeks. When the engine is warm the sound seems to disappear. Over one of the valves I can see a small amount of smoke. Is it possibly the valve seal? And if so anyone have an idea of cost to fix it. It's a 1.5dci engine. Many thanks

I've uploaded a video to YouTube but can't add it on here. Search for (engine ticking and smoking) on there and uploaded today. Thanks0

You're going to have to get the plastic cover off to start with to have a proper look, but I suspect a cracked exhaust manifold. As it heats up and expands, the crack's becoming less audible. Quick google suggests that's far from unknown on that engine.
The smoke may be exhaust, may be leaking oil onto the exhaust.
It's certainly not "internal", like a valve seal.0 -
So very likely an expensive job?0

Access is not going to be fun - the exhaust is on the back of the engine, and so pretty damn hidden on a van. Might even be engine-out, looking at a photo of the back of the engine out of the vehicle...0

Sounds to me more like a knocking hydraulic tappet. Smoke ain't good though, you've got an oil leak somewhere. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
