A friend is self employed tradesman and also has a small online ebay store.
They're required to complete the tax return for the year but don't know how to .
Any free software or spreadsheet that calculates this?
Thanks

The online tax return provided by HMRC calculates it, once you've entered the numbers for sales, expenses etc.
What you need is book-keeping software to record/analyse the individual transactions to produce the totals to enter onto HMRC's system.
VT do a free cash book which is ideal for tiny business book-keeping - you can download it from their website https://www.vtsoftware.co.uk.
You'd just need to read the HMRC instructions/helpsheets to teach yourself about what is/isn't allowable in terms of expenses, how to claim for business mileage and home office usage, etc.
Or you could engage an accountant if you don't have the time/inclination to do it yourself.0 -
One note of caution, if the 'friend' isn't already registered with HMRC for online submission it should be done ASAP. Codes and log in details were quite delayed last year and leaving it to the last moment to register could see a person out of time for the deadline.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
