Can't get my shopping below £70.00!!

Please be Gentle with me this is my first post!!- also feel free to move if i've posted this in the wrong place!!

title says it all really!! There's me dp and lo (7.5 months) that includes formula, nappies, wipes etc, has anyone tried aldi or Lidl, what is the quality like??
I'd like to spend £50.00.
I cook everything from scratch all sauces and LO's food, but i'm sure it's all the fresh stuff that bumps it up, we buy one pack of buscuits (sp) a week and the rest is dinners, for lunches I make soup which lasts me and dp all week, any ideas anyone????
Thanks!
xx

Hi nicky, welcome to MSE. I would say to try and buy only essentials on your weekly shop and buy the rest at a cheaper shop. For example, I do my main shop at tesco/sainsburys . However, I do not buy cakes, biscuits, chocolate and pop, I buy these from the home bargains in town as they are much cheaper.
Anyway the rest will probably be along wioth much wisers words I'm sure:j

sorry forgot to say have a look at the discount/ voucher forum, you will normally find plenty of codes to help you get under£70. Doing shopping online also helps to stop those impulsive buys.HTH

maybe someone could move the thread over there???
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

  • hi when i first started i found it hard to so i started buying on a daily basis
my supermarket is a 15 min walk

i stated by just wrighting down what i needed and just buying that now the first few days i found i was spending more but the last few day hardly anything as ide buy potatoes on monday but use them 2 more days also i found i was looking what i allready had in before i went and on some days i only had to get milk as i had a meal to put together from left over bits an bobs

plus i allways looked at the reduced bit first an found as i did it daily there were diff stuff everyday an made my meals cheaper especially select seconds fruit ide spend 30p tops on veg an maybe get some reduced chops 1.50 an allready had potatoes in

an the biggist plus i was getting more exercise
  • Try freecycle for nappies (as you can no longer sell nappies on ebay so there are probably more offers of nappies on freecycle now). If you ask for nappies on freecycle, I would advise against giving a sob story as it just puts people off - just say you want to reduce the size of your rubbish bin and save some money too.

You can make your own wipes out of fleece. You will find recipes for a slightly nicer solution than just water on your home-made wipes.

    Welcome to MSE.
I have used Lidl, Aldi and Netto.
I have found Aldi and lidl pretty good. I am not too keen on Netto stuff but it is all a personal choice. The baby wipes in Aldi are good and fine for the rest of the family but I have sensitive skin. But with all of their products it is a case of trying them out.

    Good luck.
