PayPal account issues

Options
I’ve held a PayPal account for many years.

When I divorced some years back I requested they change my name back to my maiden name.
They requested proof of name which I sent. Nothing was good enough.

It’s not great as every time I’ve used PayPal the item I order is under the wrong name, a name I hate to be associated with now.

I am now remarried so I sent new proof to ask for my name to be changed to my new married name.
I sent my marriage certificate and drivers license.
They responded saying they were out of date and therefore invalid.
Which they obviously are not.

I have asked to close my account and they have said no.
I have googled how to do it and it says to remove bank and credit card information and then you can close it.
So I go to remove my card and bank details and it doesn’t let me.
Tells me that the bank account can’t be removed because of balance pending.
My balance is at zero and has been for a while and there is nothing pending.

Please can anyone help?

It might be easier to open a new Paypal account under your maiden name and let your existing account wither.

From posts on this forum and elsewhere (including a report a couple of years ago on the BBC "Watchdog" programme) it appears that Paypal's customer service is useless.

Call the bank (or the current account provider) and ask to cancel direct debit. Call the credit card issuer and ask what kind of procedure they suggest to follow to make sure this CC can't be used with this Paypal account.

Then open a new PayPal account and forget about the old one.
  • I would first suggest to call Paypal direct and explain the situation as you have explained it in your post. I'm not really sure why they are causing you hassle over this!

If not, I would say open a new Paypal account under your maiden name, as another user above suggested.

Definitely try and get your bank details removed from your old Paypal account. Even though you have £0 balance and nothing pending, I think it would still be best to get your bank details unassociated with that account.
